Building Tennessee’s Future: 48 Complete Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course

Forty-eight rising and established leaders in economic development came together in Nashville for an action-packed week of learning, connection, and inspiration during the 2025 Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course (TBEDC), hosted by the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services (UT CIS). The week-long course, held in Nashville, is the cornerstone of the Tennessee Certified Economic Developer (TCED) professional certification program. The course also is accredited by the International Economic Development Council. 

This year’s class brought together a vibrant mix of professionals from chambers of commerce, local, state and federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private industry. They all shared commitment to creating jobs, attracting investment, and shaping strong, resilient economies across Tennessee. 

“We had such an enthusiastic group that was eager to learn, network, and share ideas,” said TCED Program Director Tintin Czach. “Their engagement led to rich conversations and meaningful takeaways throughout the week.” 

Throughout the course, participants explored best practices in economic and community development, real-world tools and strategies, and emerging trends shaping local and regional economies. More than 20 seasoned professionals from across the field served as guest speakers, panelists, and moderators, offering attendees valuable insights into what it truly takes to succeed in this dynamic and ever-evolving industry. 

The class also took part in the first-ever TBEDC Team Challenge – an engaging group activity designed to help participants put their new knowledge into action. Teams collaborated throughout the week and wrapped up the course by presenting their solutions to the class on the final day. While the learning was top-notch, many participants shared that the true highlight was the camaraderie, collaboration, and meaningful connections built along the way.
