Energy Management


The direct cost of your product is influenced by the cost of energy used to produce the product. Energy wastes can be identified, measured, and corrected by focusing on those areas that can be controlled. Our experienced energy management staff can help identify, quantify, and verify your true costs of energy in each piece of equipment in your plant, where your energy wasters are, and what to do to reduce these wastes. Areas quantified in a site specific energy plan for your facility include:

  • Rates and options (gas, electric, water, other fuels)
  • Lighting (type and illumination levels)
  • HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning)
  • Controls (energy management systems and process)
  • Air compressors (efficiency, leaks, etc.)
  • Motors, fans, pumps—energy efficient analysis
  • Steam systems and process heating
  • Waste stream disposal and alternatives

Economics and implementation strategies will be provided.
Project management of energy improvements are available.

Energy Management Certificate I

This course is the first class in a series that offers plant engineers, maintenance engineers, and other designated employees the ability to earn knowledge-based certificates for learning how to measure and control energy in their facilities. By successfully completing a series of the three energy management courses, the plant personnel should be able to pass the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Lighting Energy Professional (CLEP) exams offered by the Association of Energy Engineers. The class will strengthen the participants’ knowledge about the systems they operate and how to control or reduce energy for each process in the plant.

This course is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon.

Energy Management Certificate II

This course is the second class in a series that offers plant engineers, maintenance engineers, and other designated employees the ability to earn knowledge-based certificates for learning how to control energy in their facilities. This class will go into depth about energy-using systems. It will prepare participants to conduct audits and determine the economic feasibility of implementing energy improvement measures. Funding sources for implementing measures without having to secure capital from the company will also be discussed. Federal tax credits for retrofitting existing systems (up to $1.80/square foot) and how to document retrofits will be explained. Verification forms for the Internal Revenue Service will be provided. Completion of the Energy Management Certificate I course is required.
