Launched annually on the first Friday in October, and with events continuing throughout the month, MFG Day helps show the reality of modern manufacturing careers by encouraging thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers and community leaders. Across the country, manufacturers small and large will be hosting students of all ages in their facilities, showcasing a vibrant and growing industry that is vital to our economy. Manufacturers across the country will open their doors to open more minds and highlight how modern manufacturers are solving tomorrow’s challenges today!
Last year, 275,000 people participated in nearly 3,000 MFG Day events across North America—and more than 80 percent of students said they became more convinced that manufacturing provides interesting and rewarding careers after attending these events.
What is MFG Day? An annual event that allows manufacturers across the country to open their doors and open more minds to show what manufacturing really is in the 21st century.
When does MFG Day happen? The official kick-off of MFG Day each year happens on the first Friday in October. This year, it will be October 4, 2019. While many events will take place on that day, as more states declare October as Manufacturing Month, events are scheduled throughout the month.
Where do MFG Day events occur? MFG Day events occur at manufacturing facilities and educational institutions across North America. Why is there a Manufacturing Day? Modern manufacturing environments are commonly thought of as dark, dangerous factories designed for low-skilled workers. MFG Day addresses this misperception by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing really is today. Over the next decade, manufacturers will need to fill 4.6 million jobs. These jobs offer long-term career opportunities, high pay, and exposure to cutting-edge technology and innovations. MFG Day is an opportunity to connect that future workforce to potential employers and change the narrative around manufacturing.
