Your Environmental Partner

Prudent environmental practices continue to be significant assets of progressive businesses across Tennessee. Energy costs, resource availability, and the uncertain effects of climate change are causing manufacturers to continually assess their operations and develop strategies that will sustain them into the future. The Center for Industrial Services can help your company develop sustainable practices with on-site assessments and training. Our assistance will save you money!

Here is how we can help.

recycleEnvironmental Regulatory Compliance Assessment:

Comprehensive and confidential regulatory assessment of your facility against state and federal requirements followed by a written report detailing areas of compliances as well as deficiencies.

Environmental Compliance Assistance and Regulatory Training:

Services we provide to bring your facility into compliance include developing and delivering training on environmental and operational procedures; preparing and submitting permit applications; and creating environmental documents and reports such as the hazardous waste annual report, Tier II and Form R reports, storm water pollution prevention plans, spill prevention control and countermeasure plans, and many others. Open-enrollment courses and customized in-house training also provide continuous learning opportunities.

Available Environmental Compliance and Assistant Workshops

Hazardous Waste Reduction Assistance:

Identifying simple process changes or material substitutions often leads to a significant reduction in hazardous waste, moving your company from a large quantity generator to a small quantity or conditionally exempt generator…a time- and money-saving change.

Solid Waste Audits and Beneficial Use Research on Industrial Waste Materials:

CIS conducts audits to determine the present recyclability of wastes and will then list these materials on the Tennessee Materials Exchange , an Internet-based “combination dating service and classified ad” for industrial wastes. Research on waste materials also may identify beneficial uses and reduce your disposal costs. Markets for “common” industrial waste materials, e.g., pallets, cardboard, are found in our Recycling Markets Directory.

ISO 14000/Environmental Management Systems Development:

CIS provides EMS training, implementation, auditing, and preparation for registration. Included are excellent reference materials to help personnel understand what an EMS is, its benefits, and the steps necessary to create a successful and compliant system.

Energy Management:

CIS experienced energy management staff can identify, quantify, and verify your true costs of energy expended by each piece of equipment in your plant. An audit will determine where your energy wasters are and how to reduce energy waste and operation costs.

Available Energy Management Courses

Making your company both Lean AND Green:

CIS has experienced teams who apply lean analyses to manufacturing operations and identify potential environmental cost-saving opportunities: reduction in use of toxic and/or hazardous materials, reduction in raw materials, reduction in water use, energy conservation, and reduction of solid and hazardous waste generation. Cost-sharing by the US EPA is also available on some projects.

A three-pronged approach teaches participants to:

  • Determine environmental laws applicable to your facility and the associated requirements;
  • Develop training materials suitable for facility employees; and

What our clients say!

"TMEP assistance enabled us to avoid extremely high fines resulting from our TDEC inspection. Compliance issues could have resulted in fines in excess of $250,000."

Plant Manager,

Shelby County, Tennessee

"Because we're small, we don't have a lot of different experts on staff. But we can always turn to the TMEP - for anything from environmental compliance to product cost analysis. I know I can get the help I need whenever I need it."

John Kiss,

Bailey-Parks Urethane, Inc.
