Over time, CIS has been able to expand its ability to serve the industrial base in Tennessee by forming partnerships with various government and private entities. The major partners and initiatives are listed below with a short description of the major focus of their activities:

National Institute of Standards and Technology

NIST Manufacturing Extension Program(a division of the US Department of Commerce)
CIS partnership in the general area of industrial extension in Tennessee and in other training programs in the areas of workforce development and pollution prevention.

CIS partnership with the US Department of Defense to assist small firms in Tennessee in obtaining federal and other government contracts (Procurement Technical Assistance Center).

US Environmental Protection Agency

CIS partnership to produce nationally distributed videoconferences concerning air pollution regulations.

Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development

ECDCIS partnership in various activities aimed at improving the state’s industrial base.

Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation

CIS partnership to assist industrial firms in pollution prevention activities and in understanding environmental regulations.

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is the federal agency responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related injury and illness. NIOSH is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the Department of Health and Human Services.

Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence

At its core, the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence is an economic development organization. Through an annual quality award program based on the Baldrige National Quality Program, we provide Tennessee corporations and organizations access to high-impact, low-cost performance feedback that can stimulate productivity, improve quality and expand profits.

Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry

The Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry is the state chamber of commerce and the state manufacturers' association. We work to make your business a success by advocating for you in the State Capitol and by providing you with access to knowledge and services that improve your bottom line.

Institute for Public Service

The institute’s mission is to serve Tennesseans by linking university expertise with community and workplace needs. The institute promotes economic development throughout the state by helping increase quality, improve revenues, reduce costs, and create jobs.

These organizations provide technical and managerial assistance and training for city, town, and county governments across the state.

LEIC

The Law Enforcement Innovation Center promotes innovation in state and local police agencies across the U.S. in partnership with BWTX Y-12 and faculty.
